Squishy Kit: 8 Compared and Ranked for the UK

A squishy kit lets you make the toy instead of buying it. We went through eight of them, from silicone moulds to ready-filled stress ball sets, and ranked them by what you actually get in the box.

By Hannah Doyle · · 12 min read

Choosing a squishy kit is mostly about one question: what do you want to end up holding? A palm-sized silicone paw, a crunchy filled ball, or a gooey slime-stuffed sphere all need different kits, and the listings do not make that obvious.

We tested the eight kits below the way you would use them: opened the box, checked the contents against the listing, and judged how complete, how tidy and how clear each one felt. Everything we say about contents comes from the seller's own details, and we flag it as announced where we could not check it ourselves.

How we compared each squishy kit

We tested each squishy kit against the same short list, so no kit won on charm alone. We went through the box, counted what was there, and read the instructions as a total beginner would.

  • Contents: what the box actually holds (shells, moulds, fillers, tools), checked against the listing.
  • Type: silicone you pour and cure, blank shells you fill, or slime-and-shell sets.
  • Mess: how much clearing up each method creates, based on the materials announced.
  • Clarity: guide quality and how many steps stand between you and a finished squishy.
  • Age label: the age or supervision wording on the listing, which matters more than the box art.
  • Reusability: whether you can reopen a squishy and change the filling.

What we did not measure

We have no laboratory results for any of these kits, and we do not claim any. Where a seller makes a safety claim for a kit, we repeat it as the seller's wording only.

Quoted pack sizes, curing times and material names in this article are the sellers' announced details, not our own measurements.

Squishy kits are a different thing from ready-made squishies. If you want finished toys instead, our popular squishies page covers those.

Silicone kits versus shell kits: the choice that matters

Almost every squishy kit falls into one of two camps, and picking the wrong camp is the most common regret. The camp decides your mess level, your waiting time and what the finished squishy feels like.

Pour-and-cure silicone kits

Both Highttoy kits use two-part liquid silicone. You mix the parts, pour into a mould and wait. The sellers announce a cure time of around an hour, so you cannot rush it. You end up with a solid, rubbery shape such as a cat paw or a pastry.

Shell-and-filler kits

Doodora, Fairy Potions, Thedttoy, SylvaFusion and Harkta all give you a blank ball that you fill and seal. No waiting, just fill, tie and squeeze. The feel depends on what goes inside, which is where the fun is.

Our ranking, from the top

The ranking mixes completeness, clarity and how well the listing matches the box. We put the kits that need the least guesswork first.

  1. Highttoy BIG Liquid Silicone Kit: the largest range of moulds and the biggest silicone volume announced.
  2. Thedttoy 53-piece Kit: the widest filler variety and reusable ties announced.
  3. Doodora Squishy Balls Kit: a complete box with a tray and a clear guide.
  4. Highttoy Liquid Silicone Kit (480g): a simpler silicone kit with six shapes.
  5. Fairy Potions Squishy Balls Kit: the most story-led and guided, with eight recipes.
  6. SylvaFusion 15-piece Kit: compact with a pump and expander tool.
  7. Harkta 24-piece Kit: lots of shells, but check the labels carefully.
  8. Canal Toys Squish Squish Factory: easy and fun, but fewer end results.

Why the top spot goes to the big silicone kit

The Highttoy BIG kit announces three mega moulds plus six minis, glitter and glow pigments. That variety means you are rarely stuck with only one shape. If you enjoy the taba look, our taba squishy page shows what you are aiming for.

Rankings reflect contents and clarity, not any safety verdict. See the age and marking section before you buy.

Squishy kit by use: who should buy which

The right squishy kit depends far more on who is making it than on the price tag or the box art. Here is how we would match them up.

For an adult crafter

Go for the Thedttoy or SylvaFusion kit. You get more filler choice and can build squishes with a crunchy, gritty or bouncy feel. The reusable ties on the Thedttoy kit are handy if you like tinkering.

For a family craft session

Doodora and Fairy Potions are the friendliest. Both announce a tray and a guide, and both are aimed at ages 6 and up. Plan an afternoon, lay down newspaper and expect glitter in odd places.

For a gift

  • Highttoy BIG: gift-friendly if the recipient likes glow-in-the-dark and bigger shapes.
  • Thedttoy: arrives in a gift box, as announced.
  • Canal Toys: playful, with a bright factory design.
  • Fairy Potions: positioned as a craft gift for ages 6 and up.

For more present inspiration, see our squishy gift ideas guide.

For the taba and mochi look

Silicone kits and the Canal Toys factory come closest to that stretchy, doughy look. If you are chasing that style, have a read of our mochi squishy page first.

Common squishy kit mistakes

Most disappointment with a squishy kit comes from a handful of avoidable slips. We made a few of them ourselves.

  • Overfilling the shell: the listings themselves warn against it, as it affects sealing and squish.
  • Rushing the cure on silicone kits and demoulding too early.
  • Assuming one kit does both: shell kits will not give you a moulded paw.
  • Skipping the guide, then wondering why the filler is lumpy.
  • Ignoring the age wording on the listing.

Mixing the two parts badly

On a silicone kit, the two parts are announced as a 1 to 1 mix. Uneven mixing gives a patchy result, so stir slowly and scrape the sides.

Trying to slow-rise a kit squishy

Kit squishies do not slowly rise back like foam toys. If that retro rise is what you want, our slow rising squishies page covers the foam type.

Cleaning and storing your kit and finished squishies

A little care keeps both leftover kit parts and finished squishies in good shape. Tidy as you go and you will not lose half the box under the sofa.

  1. Clear the tray straight after crafting, before slime or clay dries on it.
  2. Wipe finished squishies gently with a damp cloth and let them air dry.
  3. Keep fillers in their original bags, sealed, away from small children and pets.
  4. Store finished squishies somewhere cool, out of direct sun.
  5. Bin any squishy that cracks, leaks or smells odd rather than patching it.

For a full routine, our how to clean a squishy guide goes through it step by step.

Never heat a squishy to dry it or for any other reason. No microwave, no radiator, no hot car.

Age labels and UKCA/CE marking: read before you buy

Safety on squishies is a live topic, and we want to be careful with it. We have no laboratory data of our own, so everything below is attributed.

  • The OPSS (Office for Product Safety and Standards) published a safety report on 10 August 2026 about a Squishy Dumpling Bun Squeeze Toy imported from China. It cited a microbiological risk in the liquid and no UKCA or CE marking, and the shipment was refused at the border and destroyed.
  • Toys sold in Great Britain should carry UKCA or CE marking, according to OPSS guidance.
  • Stiftung Warentest reported on 26 September 2026 that authorities and consumer groups in several European countries have raised concerns about some squishies, including odour and volatile compound findings.
  • The Verbraucherzentrale (7 October 2026) said not all squishies are dangerous, and that risks vary by product.
  • Water beads and small parts can be a choking hazard, especially for under-3s, according to the Verbraucherzentrale.

Frequently asked questions

What is a squishy kit?

A squishy kit is a boxed set that lets you make your own squishy toy. Some kits use liquid silicone that you pour into moulds, while others give you blank shells to fill with slime, clay or beads. Our what is a squishy page explains the toy itself.

Which squishy kit is best for beginners?

For the least guesswork, we would start with the Highttoy 480g silicone kit or a guided shell kit like Doodora. Both announce a clear set of contents. Pick silicone if you want a solid shape, and shells if you want instant results.

How long does a silicone squishy kit take to set?

Both Highttoy kits announce a cure time of around an hour, though we did not time it ourselves. Wait until the silicone feels fully firm before demoulding. Rushing it is a common cause of tears.

Can you reuse the filling in a shell kit?

Some kits can be reopened. The Thedttoy kit announces silicone ties that can be reopened to change the filler. Standard cable ties are one-use, so you would need to cut them off and replace them.

Are squishy kits suitable for young children?

Check the age and supervision wording on the box. The Doodora and Fairy Potions kits are announced for ages 6 and up, and Harkta announces adult supervision for under-3s around small parts. Water beads and small pieces are a choking risk for very young children.

Can I put a squishy in the microwave to set or soften it?

No. Authorities including the DGCCRF in France have asked people not to copy online videos of squishies being heated, and Glasgow's children's hospital published an alert. Heated gel can burn and the toy can burst.

Do squishy kits have UKCA or CE marking?

We cannot confirm marking from a listing alone, so check the packaging when it arrives. Toys in Great Britain should carry UKCA or CE marking, per OPSS guidance. Look for a maker or importer address as well, and read our are squishies toxic page for context.
