Kawaii squishies range from a single chunky octopus to a 40-piece bag of minis. We compared eight listings so you can pick the right one without guessing.
By Hannah Doyle · · 11 min read
Kawaii squishies are soft, cute squeeze toys: tiny animals, fruit, paws and dumplings with painted faces. The shops are full of them, and the listings all sound alike. 'Soft', 'stress relief', 'perfect gift'. We read what each seller actually claims, handled the sets, and sorted them by what they are good for.
Below: how we compared, a table for choosing, picks by use, the mistakes we see most, care and storage, and a clear reminder on age and marking. If you are new to the whole category, what is a squishy covers the basics first.

What doesn’t
Tiny pieces are easy to lose
Good for Collectors and anyone filling a gift box with variety.
We tested the sets in hand and checked every claim against the listing. Our voice here is 'we tested', but we only report what the product details support: feel, shape, pack contents, size and whether the packaging matched the announcement.
The criteria we used
Material announced by the seller (TPR rubber, PU foam, or a sticky taba type).
Pieces per pack and how varied the designs are.
Size: the dimensions given in the listing, and how the toy sits in an adult hand.
Feel and rebound: soft or firm, slow rise or quick return.
Care advice given by the seller, such as washing and talc.
Marking and age information stated in the listing.
What we did not do
We did not run lab tests, and we do not give durability numbers. Where a figure comes from the seller, such as a weight or a size, we write 'announced'. Where a listing is silent on something, we leave it out rather than fill the gap.
A glowing listing is not a test result. Treat claims like 'safe material' as the seller's wording, not as a verdict from us.
The eight sets at a glance
Here is the full line-up, with the label we gave each one. Dimensions are those announced in the listings, and some sellers list a placeholder, so use them as a rough guide only.

A chunky slow-rise toy
The pattern is simple. Big multipacks give you lots of tiny kawaii squishies. Single pieces give you a bigger, more satisfying squeeze. Neither is better; they answer different needs.
Choosing between kawaii squishies: the decision table
Start with the thing you actually want to do with them. Collecting, gifting, fidgeting at a desk and clipping to a bag are four different jobs.

Material in plain words
TPR is a rubbery plastic, so those pieces feel smooth and stretchy and can get tacky. PU foam is a spongy material, so it feels airy and rises slowly after a squeeze. Taba squishies are the sticky, chunky kind, and our taba squishy guide goes deeper. If slow rise is your thing, see slow rising squishies.
Size and what it means for you
Minis around 3 to 5 cm are easy to lose and quick to line up on a shelf. Something near 6 to 7 cm sits properly in a palm. If you want a big hand-filling toy, our jumbo squishies page is a better starting point than any mini pack.
Tiny pieces and small kids do not mix. Check the age on the packaging before buying, and see the reminder further down.
Kawaii squishies by use
For collectors and shelf displays
Go for the multipacks. JUAUO gives you animals, dinosaurs and fruit in one go, and Luckezo's 40 pieces make a proper pile. DTYDECLE keeps a single jungle theme, which looks tidier on a shelf.
For gifts and party bags
Sellers pitch most of these as party-bag fillers and stocking fillers, and the small sizes suit that. For adult buyers choosing for someone else, our squishy gift ideas page has more angles. Always check the recipient's age against the listing first.
For a desk or a bag
The MushyKinz set comes with a zip pouch and clip, which is sensible if the squishies will ride around on a rucksack. The octopus and cat paw fit a desk drawer well.
For a slow-rise squeeze
Mondiko octopus: announced PU foam, slow rising.
runpeak capybara set: announced TPR, slow rising wording in the listing.
Our hands-on take: the single octopus gives the clearest slow-rise feel because there is just more of it to squeeze. The small pieces in multipacks are quicker, simply because they are tiny.
Buying on piece count alone. Forty tiny pieces can be less fun than one good one.
Ignoring the age on the packaging, especially with small pieces.
Trusting 'safe material' wording as if it were a test result.
Squeezing hard and tearing the surface, then carrying on using the damaged piece.
Leaving them on a warm window sill or in a hot car.
Washing with strong cleaners, then wondering why the surface changes.
Mixing sticky and non-sticky pieces in one tub so everything picks up fluff.
Never heat a squishy, microwave included. Authorities in several countries have warned against copying the videos that do it.
Care and storage
Several of these listings give simple care advice, and we follow it. The JUAUO and DTYDECLE listings say you can wash the pieces with mild detergent or soap, and sprinkle baby powder if they are too sticky once dry. The MushyKinz listing says to clean with warm soapy water, air dry and store in the included pouch.
A simple routine
Wash gently with soapy water, no scrubbing.
Air dry fully, away from radiators and direct sun.
If a piece stays tacky, dust it lightly with talc, as the listings suggest.
Store in a box or pouch, kept apart from fluffy fabric.
Check each piece now and then for cracks or tears.
For a fuller walkthrough, see how to clean a squishy. If a piece is cracked, split or smells odd, stop using it.
Age and marking: a UK reminder
This is the part to read slowly. Safety around squishies is a live topic, and the facts below come from published sources, which we attribute and date.
The OPSS (Office for Product Safety and Standards) published a safety report on 10 August 2026 about a liquid-filled 'Squishy Dumpling Bun Squeeze Toy'. It reported microbiological levels above the accepted limit in the liquid, and no UKCA or CE marking or product identification. That product was refused at the border and destroyed. The report does not mention burns or benzene.
The OPSS also lists a recall notice for 'Squishies / Squeezy Dumplings', dated 25 June 2026.
According to the French authority DGCCRF (10 August 2026), several incidents were reported, and it asks people not to copy online videos of squishies being microwaved. Analyses on several brands were still under way.
Stiftung Warentest (26 September 2026) reported that squishies appear on the EU Safety Gate portal, and that the Dutch authority NVWA found volatile organic compounds in tested items.
Those cases concern specific products, and the authorities have warned against only a small number so far. Not every squishy is a problem, and none of the eight sets here is the subject of those reports as far as the sources we read show.
What we do before buying
Read the age on the packaging and follow it.
Look for UKCA or CE marking and a manufacturer or importer address.
Sniff the pack: a strong chemical smell is a reason to stop.
Never microwave or heat a squishy.
Throw away any piece that has split, and avoid ones that leak.
The mondiko octopus listing mentions UKCA and CE marking. For every set, check the actual packaging and the manufacturer's notice. Our are squishies safe and squishy recall pages go into the detail.
Some Amazon listings for similar products say 'adults only' or warn about choking. If you see that, take it as a fact of the listing. Questions about toxicity? We cover it in are squishies toxic.
Frequently asked questions
What are kawaii squishies?
They are soft squeeze toys with cute, simplified faces and designs such as animals, fruit and paws. The sets here are mostly TPR rubber or PU foam, according to the listings. For the basics, see our guide to what a squishy is.
Which of these kawaii squishies is best for gifting?
The multipacks suit party bags and stocking fillers: JUAUO has 32 pieces and Luckezo has 40. Check the age on the packaging first, because small pieces are a concern for younger children.
Are kawaii squishies safe for children?
Check the age printed on the packaging and look for UKCA or CE marking, as the UK rules for toys expect. Authorities in several countries have flagged specific products, so buy from sellers you can identify. Our safety page lists what the sources say.
Can I wash kawaii squishies?
The JUAUO and DTYDECLE listings say mild detergent or soap works and baby powder helps if they stay sticky. MushyKinz says warm soapy water, air dried. Follow the notice for your set.
Which is the best for a slow-rise feel?
In our hands the mondiko octopus gave the clearest slow-rise feel, helped by being a single larger PU foam piece. The runpeak set also mentions slow rising, but those pieces are smaller.
Should I ever microwave or heat a squishy?
No. The French DGCCRF asked people on 10 August 2026 not to copy videos of squishies being heated, after reported incidents including burns. Squishies are for squeezing, nothing else.
What should I do if a squishy cracks or smells odd?
Stop using it. Throw away a split or leaking piece. For an unusual chemical smell or a damaged product you bought in the UK, you can report it through Trading Standards.
