Eight slow rising squishies sets, ranked by what you'll actually do with them. Desk toy, party bag filler or gift: there is a pick for each.
By Hannah Doyle · · 12 min read
Slow rising squishies are the soft foam toys that take their time coming back to shape after a squeeze. We looked at eight sets on Amazon.co.uk, from bread and butter packs to a glowing ghost and a stack of clear cubes.
We tested them hands-on: how the foam feels, how the shape reads, how big each piece is, how it arrives in the box. Anything the seller claims without us being able to check is marked as claimed. Safety comes up in its own section, and it is worth reading before you add anything to your basket.

Eight sets, one routine. For each, we squeezed, pressed, rolled and released the pieces, then checked the result against the listing. The aim was simple: does the set match what the seller says it is?
We stuck to things you can see and feel, and left lab-style claims alone. Where a listing gives a figure, such as weight or size, we call it claimed.

The ranking at a glance
Each set is placed by how well it suits a typical buyer. Slow rising squishies come in themes, so the order depends on whether you want food shapes, a night-time companion or a plain fidget block.

The ranking below follows the usage in the next sections, not a single score. A great toast set is a poor night-time companion.
The eight sets, one by one
Veephine 4Pcs: the widest range in one box
Butter bar, cheese wedge, toast and croissant. That is the most varied selection of food shapes we looked at. The listing says soft PU foam with a slow rising feel, and warns that the product must not be pulled, torn or bitten.
Why we like it: four different shapes, so it works as a small collection
Watch for: the listing leans on stress relief wording, which we do not repeat
suction 4 PCS Bread: the one that looks good on a shelf
A cat paw loaf, a cloud bread and two croissants, one of them mini. The bread shapes are the point here, and the listing leans on display and photo props. If you like the taba squishy look, this is that style in a four-pack.
suction 2 PCS Toast and Butter: a simple pair
One yellow, one pink, with a toast and butter theme. Light at 10 g claimed, so it slips into a pocket without noticing. A neat starter for anyone testing whether slow rising foam is their thing.
ICONRY Butter and Cheese: the tidy gift
One butter squishy, one cheese cube. The listing sells it as a party favour and stocking filler. We have a full ICONRY review if you want the long version.
QLSVKSR Butter Squishy Pair: the quiet desk pick
Two butter blocks, yellow and pink, in a clear storage box. At 45 g claimed it is the heaviest pair here, so it sits in the hand with a bit more presence. Silent, which suits an office.
Anboor Hawaiian Mochi Bread: dessert shapes
Four pieces with a sweet look, in the spirit of a mochi squishy. The listing makes several health and safety claims. We do not repeat them here, because they are not backed by anything we could verify.
Mondiko Ghost: the odd one out
A single ghost with a smiley face that glows in the dark after charging under a lamp. Fun for a bedside shelf. It is a one-piece set, so it is more novelty than collection.
JOYIN Clear Stress Cubes: no theme, just a block
Four clear cubes at 2 inches each. No food shape, no face: the simplest option here and the one that looks the least like a toy. The listing says it is aimed at adults and party favours.
Criteria to choose with
Before you pick a set, decide which of these matters most. Slow rising foam behaves differently from gel-filled or bead-filled squishies, and the buying logic changes.
What to check before buying slow rising squishies
Question
What to look for
Why it matters
How many pieces?
Two for a pair, four for a collection
Value is in variety, not count
How big?
About 6 to 11 cm claimed per piece
Pocket size versus desk size
What shape?
Bread, butter, cheese, cube, ghost
Themed sets look better on display
How does it feel?
Spongy PU foam is the norm
Some are denser than others
Who is it for?
Check the age on the pack or listing
Some listings say adults only
What is on the box?
Maker or importer address, CE or UKCA mark
Missing details are a warning sign
If the listing says something about age or choking risk, believe it. A few of the sets we looked at carry that kind of note, and it is a fact to act on.
Which set for which use
For a desk or office
Pick something quiet, solid and small. The QLSVKSR butter pair and the JOYIN cubes fit that. Both stay put on a desk and make no noise.
For a display shelf
Look for detail and variety. The suction bread set and the Veephine bakery pack have the most to look at. If bread shapes are your thing, our guide to kawaii squishies shows how far the style goes.
For a party bag or gift
Pairs like ICONRY or the suction toast set split neatly between two people
Four-packs cover a small group
Check the age line before handing any of them to a child
Never heat a squishy, in a microwave or anywhere else. Official warnings exist about this, covered below.
Age and marking: what the official sources say
Safety is the part of squishies where we stay on the facts. Here is what has been published, with the source and date.
OPSS (UK Office for Product Safety and Standards), safety report of 10 August 2026: a squishy dumpling bun toy imported from China was stopped at the border and destroyed. It had no identification details and no UKCA or CE marking, and the liquid inside exceeded microbiological limits. The report rates the risk as medium.
DGCCRF (France), statement of 10 August 2026: it asks people not to copy social media videos that put squishies through dangerous experiments, such as the microwave. It reports incidents including burns, and says analyses of several brands are ongoing.
Stiftung Warentest, 26 September 2026: several squishies appear on the EU Safety Gate portal. It says an empty maker or importer address is a warning sign, and that a CE mark is no guarantee.
Verbraucherzentrale, 7 October 2026: not all squishies are dangerous and risks vary by product. It advises buying from known brands, checking the age on the pack, binning cracked ones and never heating them.
Our eight picks are foam sets, not gel or liquid-filled. That does not make a safety claim on their behalf. Always follow the notice, the age on the pack and the maker's details.
In Great Britain, toys should carry a UKCA or CE mark. Trading Standards can help if you think a product is unsafe. For more, read are squishies toxic.
Frequently asked questions
What does slow rising actually mean?
It means the foam takes a moment to spring back after a squeeze, instead of snapping back at once. How slowly depends on the set. Listings describe it, but we do not give timings.
Are slow rising squishies safe?
We cannot give a blanket answer. Authorities in several countries have published warnings about certain squishies, mostly gel or liquid-filled ones. Check the age on the pack, the maker or importer address and a UKCA or CE mark, and follow the notice.
Can I put a squishy in the microwave or near a heater?
No. The DGCCRF and the Verbraucherzentrale both warn against heating squishies, citing burns and bursting. Keep them away from radiators and hot cars too.
Which set is best for adults?
The JOYIN clear cubes are listed for adults, and the QLSVKSR butter pair suits a desk. Both are plain and quiet. Check each listing for its stated age.
What should I check on the box?
Look for a maker or importer address, a UKCA or CE mark, and the stated age. A missing address is a warning sign, and a mark alone is not a guarantee.
How do I clean a slow rising squishy?
Wipe it with a slightly damp cloth, let it dry fully and keep it away from heat. Read how to clean a squishy for the steps.
Do these squishies need replacing?
Bin any that crack, split or give off an odd smell. Foam sets can wear with heavy squeezing. Replace them if the surface breaks.
